Guitar, Bass and Ukulele
Ian Stephens first picked up a guitar at age 13, and hasn't put it down since. Shortly after that he began learning to read music and play with ensembles in the Tigard High guitar program, and went on to play professionally in various rock, blues, reggae, and Motown bands. In 2010, he was voted “Best Guitar Player In The Room” at a Joe Bonamassa clinic.
Ian has now taught music lessons for well over a decade and loves inspiring music enthusiasts of all ages through his teaching, focusing on electric and acustic guitar techniques as well as teaching the beauty of classical theory.
As a teacher, he loves hashing out the finer details of guitar technique and tone and challenging students with finger exercises, new songs and talking about how much Andres Segovia loved scales. Ian’s musical background is equal parts classical theory and classic rock—much of the last 15 years has been spent trying to reconcile these two things.
When not teaching or playing guitar, Ian keeps busy by restoring classic cars, searching for secluded lakes, and reading much too quickly.
